Message From Jane

Please Read Nicholas Kristof's and Sheryl Wudunn's crucially important book "HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide." Jane Roberts and Her 34 Million Friends is a big part of Chapter 8. A Kristof quote about Jane: "I tend to think that the great injustices of the kind we write about in `Half the Sky' will involve not only leadership from the White House and the UN but also from citizens like Jane Roberts in places like Redlands." How very nice!!!

A very good book to read about how religion can be twisted into the opposite of what, to my mind, religion should be is "The Family" by Jeff Sharlet.

I have read "HALF THE SKY:Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" by the NY Times' Nicholas Kristof and his journalist wife Sheryl Wudunn. It tells the tales of women around the world who, against tremendous odds, fight for health, education, gender equality, and economic empowerment for themselves and others. 34 Million Friends is part of Chapter 8. Quite honestly this is a very important book. I hope it gets an international audience. My review of it is in the "Articles" section of this web site. I am working like crazy making sure that 34 Million Friends keeps going and going like the Energizer Bunny.

May 22, 2010. Our daughter is getting married June 5 in San Diego, (what fun!) and then I go to Washington on Sunday for the United Nations Association conference and am speaking at 4:30 on Monday June 7, then I am speaking at the Speaker's Corner at Women Deliver on Tues. June 8 at 1:05 and then I go to NY on Thursday, June 10th to attend the NCRW and UNIFEM conference on Gender Based Violence on the 11th and 12th, and then I go back to Washington for the Global Health Council's conference on the "Health" Millennium Development Goals. I have an article coming out soon in the The Solutions Journal. I'll share it under ARTICLES as soon as it gets on-line.
